This project was initiated by the Region of Niagara to address structural problems in the pavement
and existing bridge structures and to remove the superstructure of an old swing bridge which formed
part of the old Welland Canal.
This project was a Schedule A project under the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process.
Phase 1: Involved the reconstruction of the road to a 10 m urban section, including a new storm sewer
outlet.
Phase 2: Involved remedial work and the widening of the deck on two existing structures, with the provision
of sidewalks on both sides.
Phase 3: Involved reconstruction of the road to a 10 m urban section.
